NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Apple Inc. Thursday said more than five
billion songs had been purchased and downloaded from its iTunes store.
The store was introduced in early 2001. Apple said iTunes was the most
popular music retailer in the U.S., based on the a survey of consumer purchases.
Shares of Apple closed Wednesday at $178.75. The stock is up 47% over the
past 52 weeks.
