SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Analogix Semiconductor and Genesis Microchip (NASDAQ:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing, today announced they successfully demonstrated the DisplayPort(TM) interface prototype to the Display Systems Committee of VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) last week.
The DisplayPort interface specification, presented for ratification in August 2005 by VESA, provides a high-quality digital interface for video and audio content with optional secure content protection, in a highly extensible format. This enables a wide range of source and display devices to be simply and securely connected. The standard has broad applications including LCD, plasma, CRT and projection displays, as well as PCs and other sources of image content. DisplayPort is an open standard.
"We are enthusiastic about our collaboration with Genesis and the future of DisplayPort," said Bill Eichen, president and COO of Analogix. "Our DisplayPort IP cores and devices aim to reduce development costs and bill of materials for all DisplayPort adopters." "We are very excited about this joint effort with Analogix that enabled us to demonstrate what we believe will become the industry's preferred interconnect between video, graphics and high definition audio applications," said Anders Frisk, executive vice president of Genesis Microchip. "Similar to the way the Ethernet interface became the platform for modern data communication, we see DisplayPort as the enabler of future entertainment technology." In addition to the DisplayPort transmitter IP core, Analogix also announced it will begin sampling its ANX9801 DisplayPort Transmitter ICs in Q1 2006.
