American Homestar Corporation (Pink Sheets: AHMS) today announced that
it is introducing a steel-framed modular home that sets a new standard
for coastal construction. The home is on display at the Tunica,
Mississippi, Regional Manufactured Housing Show, March 26 through 28.
Its frame (including all wall studs, floor and roof joists) is made
entirely of NUCONSTEEL®, which is lighter,
straighter, stronger and more environmentally friendly than wood. In
addition, the steel frame is impervious to mold, termites, fire and
decay and can be constructed to bear wind loads of up to 160 mph. The
display home also features a Fortacrete concrete floor system, which is
more durable and longer-lasting than traditional floor decking materials.
Nuconsteel is a fully integrated designer and manufacturer of total
framing solutions for both commercial and residential applications. Its
parent, Nucor, is a Fortune 500 company and is America’s
largest steel producer and recycler. American Homestar is Nuconsteel’s
exclusive manufactured home builder in the regional markets it serves.
American Homestar CEO, Buck Teeter, said, “Our
relationship with Nuconsteel and the enthusiasm they have displayed for
this project are very exciting for American Homestar. This could mark a
fundamental change in the way our modular homes are constructed –
especially in the Gulf Coast region, and we are pleased to be on the
leading edge of such change.”
A spokesman for Nuconsteel added, “We are very
excited to be partnering with American Homestar in developing and now
introducing new cost-effective applications for Nuconsteel’s
automated framing systems. American Homestar continues to prove itself
to be an innovator and forward-thinker in the modular and manufactured
housing sectors.”
American Homestar produces and sells modular, HUD-code and specialty
factory-built housing products from its two Oak Creek plants in Texas
and from a third Platinum Homes plant in northern Alabama. The company
sells its factory-built homes from 27 company-owned sales centers in
Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, including centers which are part of a
pilot project with The Home Depot in New Orleans. The Company also
distributes its homes through independent dealers and builder-developers
throughout the southeastern and south-central U.S. The Company also
provides insurance, financing and transportation services to its
customers.
