In an effort to strategically plan cost-effective and qualified crew
manpower levels, Air Canada Flight Operations has selected Altitude
MPP™ (Manpower
Planning) from Kronos®
Incorporated. This new implementation complements the airline’s
use of Altitude
PBS™
(Preferential Bidding System), which automates and optimizes the crew
scheduling process for the pilot group. The combined solution from
Kronos enables more efficient use of resource allocation by enhancing
planning capabilities, employee satisfaction, and cost efficiencies.
“All airlines are faced with the challenge of
improving their operational efficiency and satisfying crewmember quality
of life, while reducing costs,” said Tom
Ivaskiv, vice president and general manager of Kronos’
AD OPT Division. “With many successful
Altitude MPP implementations, our experience in manpower planning has
proven that airlines require automated and optimized solutions that can
establish and maintain staffing requirements, manage crewmember career
progression, and effectively allocate training awards.”
Engaging solution for management and crewmembers
Kronos’ Altitude MPP provides planners with
enhanced manpower planning decision-making capabilities. Planners can
seamlessly and optimally manage the entire manpower planning spectrum
from one central environment. As a result, airlines benefit from an
improved planning process that dramatically reduces the tedious and
lengthy data collection process. The standard product also has an option
which allows crewmembers to participate in the scheduling process by
submitting their bids for transition between categories and their
preferred training dates.
“With all the challenges faced in today’s
global airline industry, the ability to strategically plan, manage, and
foresee both short- and long-term manpower planning requirements has
never been more important,” said Captain
David Legge, vice president, flight operations at Air Canada. “Air
Canada’s planners and senior management
expect to benefit from the solution’s
enhanced manpower planning decision-making capabilities. The ability to
manage risks and uncertainties through Altitude MPP’s
‘what-if scenarios’
should provide us with the tools to determine the potential impact on
the equipment bid and on training costs.”
Air Canada has been a Kronos/AD OPT customer since 1994.
