DENVER, Nov. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Through its
philanthropic arm, Aimco Cares, Apartment Investment and Management
Company (Aimco) is continuing a 50-day campaign of service to honor
veterans and support military families across the country.
More than 60 Valuing our Veterans activities are taking
place in local communities where Aimco team members are lending
their time and sweat equity to serve nonprofits focused on
veterans' causes.
This week and throughout the month of November, Aimco team
members are engaging in community service projects including
painting and home repairs for a disabled veteran in Denver, CO; doing outside maintenance at
transitional veterans housing offered through the Hoosier Veterans
Assistance Foundation in Indianapolis,
IN; helping with set-up and hosting of the memorial
Veterans Day ceremony in Greenville, SC; preparing and delivering care
packages for residents at the Colorado Veterans Home at Fitzsimons
in Aurora, CO; assisting with the
coordination of a Veterans Day event
at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Long
Beach, CA; preparing care packages for Operation Support our
Troops in Chicago, IL; and
marching in the Veterans Day parade
in New York City, NY.
"At Aimco we are proud to support patriotic and veterans'
causes," said Aimco Chairman and CEO Terry
Considine. "This year we have extended our volunteer effort
to 50 days of serving those who have served our great
country. We honor the sacrifice of our men and women in
uniform and that of their families so that we may enjoy the
freedoms that enrich our lives every day."
Through its Aimco Cares program, each Aimco team member is given
15 hours of paid time annually to apply toward a volunteer activity
of their choosing. In addition, Aimco Cares has donated
nearly $1.7 million to two national
nonprofit military support organizations. With proceeds from
its annual charity golf classic, Aimco Cares has contributed more
than $1 million to the Tragedy
Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) over the last nine years
and $620,000 to Project Sanctuary
over the last five years. TAPS provides a comprehensive
program of peer support and crisis intervention for military
families who are grieving the loss of a loved one in the line of
duty. Project Sanctuary helps military personnel reunite with their
families after duty overseas and fully transition back to civilian
life.
