NEW YORK, Jan. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Aeropostale, Inc. (NYSE: ARO), a mall-based specialty retailer of casual apparel for young women and men, and DoSomething.org, the largest not-for-profit organization for young people and social change are now accepting jean donations for the eighth annual Teens for Jeans campaign.

Approximately one in three homeless people in the U.S. is under the age of 18 and one of the most requested items that young people in homeless shelters ask for is a pair of jeans. Teens for Jeans encourages young people to run a gently-used jeans drive in their school or community to provide jeans for youth experiencing homelessness. To date, the campaign has collected over 4.3 million pairs of jeans.

Young people can drop off their jeans beginning today through February 15, 2015 at any Aeropostale or P.S. by Aeropostale store in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico and all of the jeans will be distributed to local homeless shelters and charities.

"We are excited to launch our eighth annual Teens for Jeans campaign. The program has successfully collected and donated over four million pairs of jeans to teens in need," says Scott Birnbaum, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Ecommerce. "By partnering with DoSomething.org and pop sensation The Vamps, we have created a program that encourages today's youth to raise awareness and support such an important cause."

To kick off jean donations, pop band The Vamps are encouraging fans to "Drop Your Denim" for a good cause on social media and have recorded a public service announcement as "Super-ish" heroes The Pants Pranksters.

Not only is the band helping kick off the campaign, but they are also helping celebrate the school that collects the most jeans. The top collecting high school, middle school, elementary school, and college will each win a $5,000 school grant and the top collecting school overall will also win a private school concert by The Vamps.

"Jeans are such a huge part of youth culture -- they're something that teens can really relate to," said Aria Finger, Chief Operating Officer at DoSomething.org. "Teens for Jeans has been an incredible success in the past seven years because it resonates with young people and it's an easy way for them to take action on youth homelessness."
