CHICAGO, June 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sometimes a patient
is stable enough to not need a private air ambulance, but may
require monitoring while traveling by air. AeroCare's commercial
medical escort option might be a good choice for this type of
patient. AeroCare recently provided medical escorts to Poland, Singapore, and in the US.
The commercial medical escort option is for patients who can sit
up in a commercial airliner. The commercial medical escort option
is a more affordable option compared to the private air ambulance
option.
When a patient, family member or case manager contacts AeroCare
they will speak with an Aero-Medical Case Manager who will
determine whether a patient is a good candidate for a medical
escort. They will do a medical assessment before scheduling a
medical escort to assure that the medical escort is safe for the
patient and that the patient can fly commercially.
Once a patient is approved for a commercial medical escort
AeroCare will purchase first class or business class airline
tickets and will coordinate the entire medical escort. The AeroCare
Case Manager will complete the necessary forms with the airlines,
arrange for ground transportation and coordinate with the sending
and receiving medical facilities.
During the escort the patient will be accompanied by a flight
nurse and/or a flight medic during the ground portion of the
transport and during the flight. The medical crew will help the
patient board and depart the aircraft. They will also constantly
monitor the patient's vitals, administer any needed medications,
and provide assistance with any other needs of the patient. Once
the flight has arrived at the destination the medical crew will
accompany the patient in the ground ambulance to the receiving
facility. Upon arrival at the medical facility the medical team
will provide a post-flight report to the receiving medical staff,
and transfer care.
The medical escort option is available for patients that need to
be escorted in the U.S. and internationally.
AeroCare is a CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Medical
Transport Systems) accredited fixed-wing air ambulance provider.
The CAMTS accreditation is one of the most distinguished
accreditations an air ambulance provider can attain. A critical
care nurse and flight medic, as well as a two pilot crew, staff all
AeroCare's air medical transports.
For more than 21 years, AeroCare Air Ambulance has been a
leading air ambulance service provider, providing fixed-wing air
ambulance service for patients around the world. AeroCare's 24-hour
