Designed for High-Speed Functional Test, T6682 Selected to Test Satellite Communications Chips Based on High Pin Count and Unparalleled Accuracy
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Advantest Corporation (NYSE:ATE)(TSE:6857), the world's largest supplier of semiconductor test equipment, today announced that BAE Systems, an international developer and provider of advanced defense and aerospace systems, has purchased a system from the Advantest T6600 system-on-chip (SoC) tester family. Capable of testing advanced, high-speed microprocessors at rated speeds, the T6682 was selected for testing BAE Systems' satellite communications devices based on its high pin-count, accuracy, overall performance and cost. Recently installed at the customer's Manassas, Va., facility, the system will play an integral role in developing extreme- temperature technology for semiconductor devices for space applications.
"During this critical time when speed, accuracy and overall performance are exceedingly crucial, we chose Advantest's T6600 family because it provides us with the ability to perform consistent test development and complete evaluation," said Bruce McWilliam, senior engineer at BAE Systems. "Particularly with the advent of the NASA semiconductor-development project, we feel confident that Advantest is able to provide us with the most cost- effective, highest-performance total test solution for our needs and its compatibility with our previously purchased Advantest equipment reduces the need for new test fixtures." Advantest continues to gain market share within the SoC test sector. Its revenues from SoC tester sales exceeded the total growth of the SoC tester market over the past two years, growing more than 100 percent per year. Overtaking the number 2 position in the SoC test market last year and poised to become the leading supplier of SoC test equipment worldwide -- Advantest is also the longtime market and technology leader in memory IC test systems, as well as pick-and-place handlers.
The system offers 500 MHz to 1 GHz data rates with a unique MULTi-pin architecture that supports single wire input/output (I/O), separate I and O paths, and fly-by I/O for each tester pin channel. The system can accommodate up to four test sites in parallel, and its ultra-small 1024-pin, immersion- cooled test head delivers short signal lengths, easy maneuverability, and a small footprint.
