FRANKFURT--Deutsche Bank AG's fourth-quarter results will be
dented by additional reserves for potential claims from retail
banking clients following a recent verdict from Germany's Supreme
Court, German daily Handelsblatt reported late Wednesday, citing
people familiar with the matter.
The additional reserves are in the a triple-digit million euro
area, the paper said. A spokesman for Deutsche Bank declined to
comment.
In October, Germany's Supreme Court ruled that German banks have
unlawfully extracted credit-processing fees from clients and
customers are now entitled to claim these back.
German consumer organization Stiftung Warentest estimates that
the entire German banking industry has taken EUR13 billion in
illegal processing fees, Handelsblatt said.
Germany's largest bank will post its fourth-quarter results
Thursday. Analysts polled by Dow Jones expect a net loss of EUR289
million on average.
