energy markets, today announced the appointment of Gary S. Guzy to the
newly created position of General Counsel. He will be responsible for
directing APX’s legal strategy and leading the
Company’s worldwide regulatory and government
affairs program.
Most recently, Guzy served as Global Practice Leader for Climate Risk
and Sustainability at Marsh, a leading global risk management and
insurance brokerage firm. During his tenure, he managed the firm’s
comprehensive climate and sustainability program, working closely with
clients around the world to identify and address emerging environmental
risks and trends.

brings 25 years of proven environmental leadership and legal experience

Previously, Guzy served as the top legal official at the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency from 1998 to 2001. In this role, he
helped implement new environmental policies, including establishing air
pollution and tailpipe emissions programs and ensuring the protection of
the Florida Everglades. He also authored climate change provisions that
were later ratified by the U.S. Supreme Court in its landmark 2007
decision finding that greenhouse gases are pollutants under federal law.
Earlier in his career, he was a partner in Foley Hoag LLP’s
environmental law group and a Senior Trial Attorney at the U.S.
Department of Justice’s Environment Division.
In addition, he served as a consultant to the U.S. Senate’s
Environmental and Public Works Committee and the Chesapeake Bay
Foundation.
Guzy, 49, also is an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Law at the
Georgetown University Law Center, where he currently teaches the law
school’s first-ever course on climate change.
He serves on the advisory board of the Environmental Law and Policy
Review as well as on the green advisory committees of the Urban Land
Institute and Greater Washington Board of Trade. He received a B.A,
magna cum laude, from Cornell University, and earned his J.D., cum
laude, from Cornell Law School.
Mr. Guzy, who will report to Mr. Storms, also will manage APX’s
Washington, DC office. His appointment as General Counsel is effective
immediately.
