APX Appoints Gary Guzy as General Counsel

APX, Inc., the leading infrastructure provider for environmental and energy markets, today announced the appointment of Gary S. Guzy to the newly created position of General Counsel. He will be responsible for directing APX’s legal strategy and leading the Company’s worldwide regulatory and government affairs program.

Most recently, Guzy served as Global Practice Leader for Climate Risk and Sustainability at Marsh, a leading global risk management and insurance brokerage firm. During his tenure, he managed the firm’s comprehensive climate and sustainability program, working closely with clients around the world to identify and address emerging environmental risks and trends.

“Gary’s credentials are unsurpassed, and he will make an important impact on the continued growth of APX,” said Brian M. Storms, APX’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “He brings 25 years of proven environmental leadership and legal experience to our management team. His policy expertise coupled with his deep understanding of climate change issues will be tremendous assets to APX as we expand our position in the rapidly developing environmental compliance marketplace.” “I am delighted to be joining an organization essential to the integrity and transparency of the emerging environmental markets,” said Mr. Guzy. “Emissions credit and allowance trading is a critical part of the solution for climate change.” Previously, Guzy served as the top legal official at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 1998 to 2001. In this role, he helped implement new environmental policies, including establishing air pollution and tailpipe emissions programs and ensuring the protection of the Florida Everglades. He also authored climate change provisions that were later ratified by the U.S. Supreme Court in its landmark 2007 decision finding that greenhouse gases are pollutants under federal law.

Earlier in his career, he was a partner in Foley Hoag LLP’s environmental law group and a Senior Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Environment Division. In addition, he served as a consultant to the U.S. Senate’s Environmental and Public Works Committee and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Guzy, 49, also is an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he currently teaches the law school’s first-ever course on climate change. He serves on the advisory board of the Environmental Law and Policy Review as well as on the green advisory committees of the Urban Land Institute and Greater Washington Board of Trade. He received a B.A, magna cum laude, from Cornell University, and earned his J.D., cum laude, from Cornell Law School.

Mr. Guzy, who will report to Mr. Storms, also will manage APX’s Washington, DC office. His appointment as General Counsel is effective immediately.
