SAN DIEGO, April 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- What makes a
"cool" woman? How about work ethic, energy, entrepreneurial spirit
and kindness?
The local Girl Scout community commended those qualities today
in Susan Salka, CEO of AMN
Healthcare Services, Inc. (NYSE: AHS), naming her one of Girl
Scouts San Diego's Cool Women 2015.
AMN Healthcare, headquartered in San
Diego, is the nation's leader and innovator in healthcare
workforce solutions and staffing services.
Salka will receive her award, along with a select group of other
notable female luminaries from the San
Diego area, at a luncheon and ceremony today. Event proceeds
will help support Girl Scout program outreach for girls in schools
in low-income neighborhoods, homeless shelters and San Diego County's Girls Rehabilitation
Facility.
"We're proud to honor these exemplary women for their
extraordinary leadership and community service," said Jo Dee C. Jacob, chief executive officer of Girl
Scouts San Diego.
Jacob added that Salka is "the consummate role model for girls
and an inspiration for us all."
Each year since 2001, Girl Scouts San Diego has honored
exemplary local Cool Women who make the world a better place, as
they balance work, family, social lives and community service.
"I believe one of the most meaningful ways of supporting the
advancement of women is by beginning the dialog about opportunity
and equality when girls are still young," said Salka. "As a
former Girl Scout, I am personally honored by this award, but I am
most proud of concerted efforts by the Girl Scouts and our
community at large to ensure that our girls can find pathways to
their brightest possible futures."
Salka is a strong advocate for the advancement of women in
leadership roles and for corporate responsibility in the local and
global community. Under her leadership, AMN Healthcare sponsors an
annual medical and community development mission to Guatemala and supports Make-A-Wish and other
local charitable causes. Among her many accolades, Salka was named
Director of the Year for Corporate Citizenship by the
Corporate Director's Forum. She currently serves on the board of
directors of McKesson, The Campanile Foundation at San Diego State University, and on the editorial
advisory board of Directors & Boards magazine.
