management of the wired and wireless networks
ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN) a leading provider of
next-generation open networking solutions, today announced it
created an advanced digital learning environment for Edward Waters
College, a private college located in Jacksonville, Fla. The
college is utilizing ProCloud Plus managed services for its wired
and wireless networks in order to offload management and more
easily provide high-speed broadband connectivity throughout the
campus’ 31 buildings and grounds. ProCloud Plus provides a solid
foundation to support a high percentage of students using eBooks in
classes, as well as advanced eLearning tools. The system affords
the nearly 1,200 students, faculty and staff the opportunity to
bring their own device (BYOD) while providing the IT staff a fully
secure, managed environment. ADTRAN's ProCloud Plus managed service
empowers Edward Waters College to provide instructors with the
infrastructure to deliver the modern, digital learning experience
required to position today's millennials for success.
“Prior to ADTRAN, we managed our network in-house and soon found
we could not handle the daily demand we experienced because of the
growing amount of devices and traffic on our network. What ADTRAN
brought to the table was exciting, as we are able to provide 24/7,
365 day coverage everywhere on campus, outsource our network
monitoring and have our IT team focus on managing our hardware, all
while reducing our costs significantly,” said Randolph Mitchell, VP
business and finance, Edward Waters College. “None of the other
vendors could provide the impressive services ADTRAN had that have
served all of our networking and bandwidth needs while scaling
services when necessary.”
Scalability for a higher education institution is vitally
important, as colleges and universities must deal with fluctuating
bandwidth needs caused by students, faculty and staff bringing
multiple devices with them to campus. Smartphones, tablets, laptops
and even gaming consoles can quickly strain network infrastructure
and become unwieldy for IT staff to manage. Edward Waters College
addressed its campus connectivity issues by installing new Ethernet
switches and wireless access points throughout the campus to
provide the required coverage for reliable access to the network.
ADTRAN’s ProCloud Plus managed service ensures network continuity
while also providing alert monitoring, full system management and a
24-hour help desk that users call should an issue arise. The
solution eliminates the IT staff's burden of managing the wired and
wireless networks, allowing them to focus on the core learning
experience.
“Providing the required resources to fuel the modern classroom
networking environment is a real challenge for college IT
departments. Scalability and the power to manage your network in
real-time is critical to students’ success throughout the campus,”
said Todd Lattanzi, director, cloud services portfolio, ADTRAN.
“ProCloud Plus brings a secure, reliable managed infrastructure to
IT departments and offers instructors the backbone required to
immerse millennials in a digital learning environment.”
