ADRs End Mostly Lower; Oil Majors Decline

International stocks trading in New York closed mostly lower on
Monday.
The BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts eased 0.48%
to 128.65. The European index edged down 0.33% to 128.22, the Asian
index fell 0.89% to 139.27, the Latin American index edged up 0.09%
to 150.37 and the emerging markets index declined 0.88% to
219.56.
Oil majors were among the companies with ADRs that traded
actively.
Oil prices fell Monday as disappointing economic data from Japan
helped reinforce fears that the world's glut of crude won't ease
soon. Among oil majors with ADRs, BP PLC (BP, BP.LN) fell 1.3% to
$31.71, China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (SNP, 0386.HK) fell 4%
to $61.09, Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PBR, PETR3.BR, PETR4.BR)
declined 1.8% to $4.45, PetroChina Co. Ltd. (PTR, 0857.HK,
601857.SH, K3OD.SG) dropped 2.8% to $67.79 and Total SA (TOT,
FP.FR) decreased 1.1% to $45.37.
China's antigraft watchdog detained the chairman of China
Telecom Corp. (CHA, 0728.HK, K3ED.SG), Chang Xiaobing, in the
latest in a spate of moves against executives at many of the
country's top state-owned companies. Mr. Chang was detained on
suspicion of "severe disciplinary violations," according to a
one-sentence statement posted Sunday on the website of the Central
Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Communist Party's top
anticorruption agency. The statement said Mr. Chang, 58 years old,
is the former chairman of the country's second-largest mobile
operator China Unicom Ltd. (CHU, 0762.HK, K3ID.SG). He assumed the
top post at China Telecom in August. China Telecom's ADRs fell 1.7%
to $47.03. China Unicom declined 1.2% to $12.20.
The vaccine division of Sanofi (SNY) said Monday it has secured
approval from Brazilian authorities to market its dengue fever
vaccine amid an explosion of cases across Latin America's largest
nation. Brazil is the third nation to approve Sanofi's vaccine,
following Mexico and Philippines, according to the company.
Sanofi's ADRs fell seven cents to $43.08.
