Pilots Demand Fair and Equitable Treatment
WILMINGTON, Ohio, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Airline Professionals Association Teamsters Local 1224 Executive Board has asked the ABX Air, Inc. (NASDAQ:ABXA), Board of Directors to commence an investigation into the way in which management treats its flight deck crewmembers. Teamsters Local 1224 represents the interests of the 700 crewmembers who fly in the service of ABX Air.
Union leadership was prompted to take this unprecedented step based on management's refusal to return three flight crewmembers to active duty despite receiving confirmation from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that they had been removed from its Selectee List. In spite of the TSA's decision, ABX managers would neither return these members to line duty nor give any explanation for this treatment -- a common courtesy that any responsible management team could be expected to extend.
Furthermore, union leaders are at a loss to understand how these professional airmen could have been put on the TSA's Selectee List in the first place. The union is continuing its own investigation as to the events that precipitated this action.
"In our opinion, this behavior is absolutely unconscionable," Local 1224 President Capt. Rob Boyd said. "I cannot believe the ABX Board of Directors would want its managers to treat its employees so unfairly and disrespectfully by denying them the rights of due process."
