ABB Japan Orders Braintech Software for Two Japanese Automakers
- ABB Introduces New Trueview(TM) Seam-Sealing System -
SEATTLE, July 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Braintech Inc. (OTC:BRHI) (BULLETIN
BOARD: BRHI) , a leading provider of vision guided robotic, ("VGR") software
solutions, announced today that it has received two separate orders each for
two similar eVisionFactory(TM) (eVF(TM)) solutions from strategic partner ABB
(NYSE:ABB), for two Japanese automakers. The eVF solutions are the key
ingredient to this new application of TrueView(TM) vision guidance for seam
sealing.
TrueView VGR, combining ABB robots and Braintech's eVF software has liberated
manufacturing from the limitations of fixtured automation. In the case of
these seam sealer systems, an ABB robot uses eVF vision to position the sealing
applicator relative to vehicle bodies thereby eliminating the need for costly
fixturing and human operators.
Commenting, COO, Babak Habibi stated, "We continue to demonstrate the unique
power of our patented(1) SC3D(TM) guidance technology. Originally developed as
a novel approach to locate engine parts for materials handling applications, the
core SC3D technology has proven to be a key new technology for 3D Machine
Vision, capable of satisfying guidance requirements for a large array of
manufacturing needs including powertrain, body, sealant, arc welding and
general assembly. Moreover, having extensively evaluated various technologies
to solve different types of TrueView applications, we've discovered traditional
stereo vision and laser based approaches are nowhere near as reliable or
versatile as SC3D." Jerry Osborn, Vice President, General Manager, ABB Robot Automation stated, "We
see more and more of our customers adopting VGR as a viable manufacturing
technology, which opens up new opportunities for TrueView. Now, we're starting
to see the first TrueView systems being deployed outside North America and we
plan to continue this expansion throughout Asia and Europe".
