SOURCE360 Festival & Conference was held August 10 - 14 in Brooklyn, N.Y. The multi-faceted 2017 confab
presented memorable performances and panels including cannabis,
policing, technology, the state of hip-hop, visual media and more.
SOURCE360 brings together the local community, artists, business
executives, media mavens, performers, and others to further the
dialogue around the political significance, social applications,
and artistic value of Hip-Hop culture in the most positive and
authenic way. In an exclusive conversation with L. Londell McMillan, executive producer of
the SOURCE360, were influential business leaders Master P,
CEO of No Limit, and Debra
Lee, CEO of BET, for the SOURCE360 Master Class Power
Talk on Friday at the Polonsky Shakespeare Center. The
two inspiring moguls shared jewels of wisdom regarding the
evolution of Hip-Hop culture and commerce, painting a vivid picture
of their individual journeys to success.
SOURCE360 incorporated the historic arts and culture center of
downtown Brooklyn, scheduling
opening-day events at the New York
registered landmark Brooklyn Borough Hall. Events included the
daylong SOURCE360 Tech Hackathon that gave kids from grades
6-12 the opportunity to apply their passion to technology, and the
SOURCE360 Speaker Series session Tech: New Age of Digital Music,
Marketing & Making Money, featuring information on tech
entrepreneurship.
SOURCE360 invited key members of local law enforcement along
with community representatives for Community & Policing:
Innovative Solutions to Increase Trust, including Assistant
Chief of Patrol Brooklyn Borough North Jeffrey Maddrey, and NAACP's Brooklyn

Williams. Also on Thursday was Business Opportunities
and Regulations of the Cannabis Industry, which addressed
pathways to entrepreneurship in addition to reconfirming
marijuana's benefits as an aid to health and wellness.
Also noteworthy was Friday's Lights, Camera, Action: Hip-Hop
Culture In Cinema & Television, including filmmaker
Benny Boom and pioneer rapper
Roxanne Shanté; along with SOURCE Latino: Bridging the
Gap Of Hispanic & Urban Culture where panelists
acknowledged the role that Latinos have played in the history of
Hip-Hop.
Saturday's The State of Hip-Hop: 40 Years and Now Leaders of
Pop Culture, held outdoors at the Block Party. Panelists
Charlamagne Tha God of The Breakfast Club, Deb Antney, artist manager and TV
personality of Love & Hip-Hop, and Lord Jamar of
Brand Nubian examined Hip-Hop's current creativity, style, media
exposure, and impact on the community. The group discussed what
artists and other creatives can do to give more to listeners and
the next generation of creative talent.
