DALLAS, Feb. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- 85.6 million
Americans are living with some form of cardiovascular disease—and
wellness programs have the potential to help them. A January
HealthMine survey of 501 consumers with known heart disease and/or
risk found that 38% of people are enrolled in a wellness program.
43% of those individuals say they discovered their heart
condition/risk through their wellness program.
Wellness programs can help consumers identify and manage their
disease or risk by providing awareness, recommended health actions
and meaningful incentives to manage health. HealthMine's survey
found that 68% of respondents enrolled in wellness programs also
have access to a disease management program. 86% of those with
access participate in their disease management program.
Direct and indirect costs of cardiovascular diseases and stroke
total more than $320.1 billion in the
U.S., according to the American Heart Association. That includes
health expenditures and lost productivity. But 79% of respondents
enrolled in wellness plans said their program helps them manage
their healthcare costs. 42% say their wellness program helps them
manage their healthcare costs a lot.
Bryce Williams, CEO and President
of HealthMine said: "Heart disease strikes someone in the U.S. once
about every 43 seconds. But, we have the power to lessen the
impact." He continued: "Through personal clinical engagement, we
can help people find out sooner, learn what they need to do and
motivate them to do it."
