US Search Engines' March Market Shares Hold Steady - ComScore

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES Google Inc. (GOOG) remained atop the list of the most-popular U.S. Internet-search services as most search-engine companies maintained their existing market shares, according to industry researcher comScore Inc. (SCOR). Google's share of the U.S. search market remained flat at 66.4% in March, as did Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) Internet-search sites, which held a 15.3% market share. Yahoo Inc.'s (YHOO) websites edged down 0.1 percentage point from February to 13.7%. The share held by IAC/InterActiveCorp.'s (IACI) Ask.com remained unchanged at 3%, while AOL Inc.'s (AOL) market share moved up 0.1 percentage point to 1.6%. Americans conducted 18.36 billion core search queries in March, up from 17.59 billion in February. Google again ranked first, with 12.19 billion searches, followed by Microsoft, with 2.81 billion, and Yahoo with 2.52 billion. ComScore shifted how it reports its data after Yahoo's "contextual searches" skewed earlier results. ComScore measures U.S. explicit core searches, which exclude contextual searches that don't reflect any intent by users. -By Drew FitzGerald, Dow Jones Newswires; 212-416-2909; Andrew.FitzGerald@dowjones.com
