NEW YORK, July 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Wunderman New York
shared its talent, skills and time with more than 90 New York City
middle school students at the Harlem YMCA last week. Teaming up
with SuitUp, an organization dedicated to providing children with
the opportunity to learn about career possibilities, 60 volunteers
spent the day with the students. Together, they worked side by side
on a one-day business competition to create and market a new shoe
for Nike.
"We enjoy the opportunity to share what we know with students
and introduce them to our world," said Jamie Gallo, president of Wunderman New York.
"Advertising is a constantly changing industry, with a range of
possibilities, and we're extremely happy to help raise awareness
about those opportunities."
This is one of a number of community-focused initiatives
originated by Wunderman's VP of global creative management,
Jessica Orsina. Under her direction,
Wunderman New York has been engaged with The One Club and built
Pilot House, an international creative internship program.
"When we ask students 'what do you want to be when you grow up?'
the top three answers are professional athlete, pop singer or what
mom or dad do," explained Mallory
Hagan, COO at SuitUp. "Our mission at SuitUp is to broaden
their perspective and show them that there's an endless amount of
opportunities in the world. If you love what you do, you can feel
as good as an athlete or a pop artist."
Ten teams were challenged with creating a marketing plan and
developing an ad concept. Through this exercise, students learned
about business problem solving, teamwork and design. Winners were
awarded $25 gift certificates from
Amazon.
