STOCKHOLM -(Dow Jones)- Cable-television and Internet provider Virgin Media Inc. (VMED) Wednesday said it has signed an exclusive agreement with Anglo-Swedish music streaming service Spotify in the U.K. The deal will allow Virgin Media to offer the popular music platform across multiple services. Over 4 million fiber-optic broadband customers in the U.K. will have the option to access Spotify's music streaming service, Virgin said. Virgin's customers will be offered the service in the coming months. "Virgin Media will also be the only digital entertainment provider in the U.K. to integrate Spotify into its TV offering," the company added. Spotify, which has a free-of-charge, advertising-backed service in addition to a paid-for subscription service without ads, is used by over 10 million people in the U.K., Finland, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Sweden. According to a spokesperson at Spotify, the U.K. is one of the company's largest markets. However, Spotify declined to reveal its exact user base in the country. -By Sven Grundberg, Dow Jones Newswires; +46-8-5451-3098; sven.grundberg@dowjones.com
