DOW JONES NEWSWIRES A U.S. District Court lifted its stay of an EchoStar Corp. (SATS) patent-infringement lawsuit against TiVo Inc. (TIVO) in the latest chapter of the companies' legal battle. EchoStar, a set-top box maker, was spun off from Dish Network Corp. (DISH) at the beginning of 2008 and still relies on Dish for most of its business. The companies have been battling for years over technology that allows someone to pause, rewind and fast-forward through live television. A jury in 2006 found Dish and EchoStar liable for infringing TiVo's patent when they began making their own set-top boxes. TiVo said the suit, originally brought by EchoStar on four patents in 2005, has been whittled down to one patent, on which EchoStar has changed its position on the meaning of claim terms. The company said it remains confident it doesn't infringe any of the remaining claims at issue. EchoStar acquired the patents in question from International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) after TiVo successfully sued EchoStar over its Time Warp digital video recorder technology patent. TiVo shares recently traded at $10.46, down 3.4%.
