entertainment rankings for Jan. 27,
2016.
Fox's "The Revenant" proves it's a force to be reckoned with as
the multiple Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe® winner
took the world by storm with $49.8
million this weekend, setting its sights on the
quarter-billion dollar threshold in the worldwide arena in the
coming week. Meanwhile, in another galaxy, Disney's "Star
Wars: The Force Awakens" has the $2
billion club within reach with $1,940 million banked through this
weekend.
There were two very solid week-one debuts on our DVD &
Blu-Ray Disc Sales chart with Fox's "The Martian" entering the
chart at number one and Sony's hit animated movie "Hotel
Transylvania 2" debuting in second place.
Lionsgate's gritty crime drama "Sicario" ascend to the top
slot on our DVD & Blu-Ray Disc Rentals chart followed by
Universal's "Minions" and, in third, by the debut of "Hotel
Transylvania 2" that is clearly enjoying a strong response by
families on the various small screen platforms.
On our Digital Movie Purchases and Rentals chart, Lionsgate's
"Sicario" climbed back into the number one spot, now in its third
week of release. Fox's Golden Globe® winning movie, "The
Martian," continued to dominate the charts in its third week
of release sitting solidly in the number two spot and landed atop
our Movies on Demand chart as well.
On our Combined Engagement for Broadcast and Cable chart, Spike
TV's "Lip Sync Battle" uploaded a video with clips of Jenna Dewan-Tatum's performance of Ginuwine's
"Pony" to YouTube and the video garnered 14.5M+
views.
