entertainment rankings for May 6,
2015.
Disney/Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" has assembled an
amazing box office performance since its debut, grossing
$664 million in 13 days of global
release. Debuting at number one in every market since beginning its
international roll-out on April 22,
the movie has generated $459.5
million at the international box office overall. This week,
Universal's "Furious 7," with a current worldwide gross of
$1.429 billion, has become the
fourth-highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide.
In North America, an
astonishing weekend officially kicked off the summer movie season
of 2015 as Disney/Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" posts the
second biggest opening weekend in North
America of all time with $191.27
million. In second place, Universal's April megahit "Furious
7" is still holding strong (considering it's in its fifth weekend
of release) as it takes in another $6.1
million, bringing its North American total to $331.1 million.
Paramount's "Interstellar" maintains a solid orbit on the small
screen again this week, taking the number one spot on our digital
sales and rentals chart followed by Sony's "The Wedding Ringer,"
starring the ever-popular Kevin
Hart, which enjoys a strong debut at number two.
"Interstellar" also takes the number one spot in DVD and Blu-ray
disc rentals and third place in DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales.
Liam Neeson demands respect and
takes names on both our Movies on Demand chart and DVD and Blu-ray
sales chart as the third installment of the "Taken" franchise,
Fox's "Taken 3," debuts in the top spot on both charts.
Telemundo's "La voz kids" tops our broadcast TV engagement chart
this week with CBS's "NCIS" & "NCIS: New Orleans" coming in second and third place,
respectively. Meanwhile, Bravo's "The Real Housewives of
Atlanta" and Hallmark's "Good
Witch" take the one and two spots on our cable TV engagement
chart.
For the second week in a row on our combined social media and
digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable
telecasts, Spike TV's "Lip Sync Battle" was the top show. This
week, Anna Kendrick's battle vs John Krasinski lead the
charge with 3.7 million plus views. Grabbing second, NBC's "The
Voice" reached out to its fans on Tumblr wanting to
feature artwork for the following week's episode. Creations were
entered for a chance to display on the show while Pharrell
performed live.
