TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform
entertainment rankings for April 1,
2015.
There's no place like "Home" when it comes to this weekend's box
office as the Dreamworks Animation release distributed by Fox added
$76.1 million globally, topping the
international chart and leading the charge in its first
weekend in North America (with a
debut of $52.1 million) for a
combined worldwide total to-date of just over $100 million. Another PG-rated movie marked
a milestone as Disney's hit live-action "Cinderella" crossed
the $300 million threshold this
weekend with a global total to-date of $336.2 million.
Newcomers dominate DVD and Blu-ray sales this week with Fox's
"Penguins of Madagascar," Fox's
"Exodus: Gods and Kings" and Sony's family musical "Annie" taking
the top three spots. On the DVD and Blu-ray rentals side, "The
Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" remains a favorite followed by
Universal's comedy sequel "Dumb And Dumber To" and Fox's Best
Picture Oscar® winner "Birdman" taking the
third spot.
On our digital purchases and rentals chart,
Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" holds
onto the number one position, now in its fourth week of
release, with Fox's "Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb"
making a strong debut at the number two spot. Sony's,
"Annie" opened at number 17. Notably, our Digital
Download Essentials team pointed out that this 2014 "Annie" is
the third film adaptation following Columbia's 1982 "Annie," which coincidentally
hit the charts at number 20.
On our Movies on Demand chart, Sony's musical "Annie" sings its
way to a first place finish this week with the ubiquitous "The
Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" from Lionsgate demonstrating its
power across many screens in the second position and Disney's "Big
Hero 6" showing continued popularity in the third position.
CBS takes the top three spots on our broadcast TV
engagement chart this week with "Blue Bloods" topping the
chart again. CBS' "NCIS" family holds a tenacious hold week
after week with the original "NCIS" in second place and relative
newcomer "NCIS: New Orleans"
taking third.
AMC's "The Walking Dead" keeps a death grip on the top of the
cable TV engagement chart once again, followed by Bravo's "The Real
Housewives of Atlanta" and TNT's
original series "Rizzoli & Isles."
Finally, in our combined social media and digital engagement for
viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, NBC's "The Voice" began
their battles and continued their YouTube dominance. Fox's
"Empire" began gearing up for their season finale
and Instagram showed particularly strong engagement as they
asked for a double tap from anyone watching the episode the night
of the 11th.
