Some corporate users of Google's Gmail couldn't use the email service for more than an hour on Wednesday because of an unspecified technical problem, a mishap that could affect Google's pitch to corporate customers.

Around 12 p.m. Eastern Time, Alphabet Inc.'s Google said it had identified the cause of the outage but hadn't yet resolved it. The outage, which only affects some corporate users of Gmail, began shortly before 11:16 a.m. EDT, according to a Google webpage. At 12:40 p.m. EDT, the company said service had been restored for some users and it expected "a resolution for all users in the near future."

Some employees of Dow Jones, the News Corp unit that publishes The Wall Street Journal, were affected by the outage. Employees of other companies complained about the disruption to their workdays on Twitter.

Google has recently increased efforts to sell its products to corporate customers, including its productivity tools, like Gmail and Google Docs, as well as its cloud-computing service.

Google didn't immediately respond to a request for additional comment.
