Apple Inc. (AAPL) plans to introduce a smaller and cheaper iPad by the end of this year, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday on its website, citing two unnamed people with knowledge of the plans. The move is aimed to help maintain market dominance as Google Inc. (GOOG) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) prepare to release competing devices, the report said. The people said the new model would have a screen that's seven to eight inches diagonally, the report said, adding that Apple might announce the product by October. Trudy Muller, a spokeswoman for Apple, declined to comment, the Bloomberg report said.
