DOW JONES NEWSWIRES Starbucks Coffee Co. (SBUX) on Thursday unveiled its new single-serve coffee maker system, stepping up the level of competition in a fast growing part of the market. The new system, called Verismo, will brew Starbucks brand espresso drinks as well as plain coffee in a proprietary machine. The coffee giant partnered with Germany's Krueger GmbH to provide the single-serve coffee cups, which tend to offer wide margins. Starbucks shares rose 1.2% to $50.95 after-hours, while Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR), provider of competing Keurig-brand coffee cups, was off 19% at $50.32. Starbucks plans to introduce its coffee cups in the U.S., Canada and select international markets this fall. -By Drew FitzGerald, Dow Jones Newswires; 212-416-2909; Andrew.FitzGerald@dowjones.com
