CHICAGO, Nov. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Invenergy
today announced that it has signed a 100 MW wind power purchase
agreement (PPA) with Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) to provide the
global interconnection and data center company with renewable
energy to help support all of its data centers across North
America.
As a signatory to the American Business Act on Climate Pledge,
Invenergy is dedicated not only to meeting its own sustainability
goals, but to helping its corporate customers achieve their goals.
Invenergy is also a founding member of Rocky Mountain Institute's
Business Renewables Center, which is a collaborative platform aimed
at accelerating corporate renewable energy procurement.
Last week, Invenergy announced a 125 MW wind power purchase
agreement (PPA) with Owens Corning to provide the insulation,
roofing, and fiberglass manufacturer with renewable energy to
support their ambitious corporate sustainability goals. Both of
these agreements bring Invenergy's total corporate customer wind
portfolio to 225 MW.
"We're very pleased to help Equinix meet its long-term renewable
energy and sustainability goals. The growing demand for new
data storage facilities to support the explosive growth of cloud
computing is equally matched with the demand to power-up those
facilities in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way,"
said Invenergy's Vice President of Sales and Marketing Craig Gordon. "We applaud Equinix's commitment
to meeting their power supply needs for all their data centers from
clean renewable energy sources like wind and solar."
Earlier this year Equinix announced its commitment to 100
percent clean and renewable energy for its entire global footprint
of 105 data centers located in 33 markets. Through ongoing
development of partnerships like Invenergy's, Equinix continues to
deploy innovative new technologies to make this commitment a
reality.
The agreement with Equinix includes the sale of wind energy from
the Wake Wind Energy Facility located in Texas. Invenergy will provide 100 MW of
capacity resulting in approximately 457,000 MW hours of renewable
energy annually generated in Texas
and delivered into the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) regional electricity grid.
"As a leader in powering the digital economy, Equinix strives to
operate our global business in a clean and sustainable way.
Therefore we are thrilled to be working with Invenergy to bring
more wind energy to the U.S. grid," said Equinix Chief Global
Operations Officer Sam Kapoor.
"Working together, we ensure we are one step closer to achieving
our goals of using of 100 percent renewable energy and creating
long term change."
