By Ben Fox Rubin The U.S. Department of Justice said a Russian man indicted for cyber attacks on Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) was arrested on an international warrant in Cyprus on Wednesday. The man, Dmitry Olegovich Zubakha, 25 years old, of Moscow, was indicted in the U.S. last year for two "denial of service" attacks on Amazon.com in June 2008. Such attacks are explicit attempts to interrupt legitimate traffic to websites, with methods such as flooding a network, thereby preventing regular traffic. The indictment, unsealed Thursday, also details denial-of-service attacks on Priceline.com Inc. (PCLN) and eBay Inc. (EBAY). Mr. Zubakha is charged with conspiracy to intentionally cause damage without authorization to a protected computer and two counts of intentionally causing damage to a protected computer resulting in the loss of more than $5,000. He also was charged with possession of 15 or more unauthorized access devices and aggravated identity theft for a separate incident in 2009 involving stolen credit-card numbers. The U.S. government is seeking to extradite Mr. Zubakha from Cyprus, and he remains in custody. An Amazon.com representative wasn't immediately available for comment. According to the indictment, Mr. Zubakha allegedly mounted denial-of-service attacks on June 6, 2008, and again on June 9, 2008, against Amazon.com, disrupting customer access to the website for hours. Mr. Zubakha and another hacker allegedly launched the attack by having a computer request large and resource-intensive Web pages.
