Among the companies with shares expected to actively trade in
Thursday's session are Symantec Corp. (SYMC), Akamai Technologies
Inc. (AKAM), Angie's List Inc. (ANGI) and Home Federal Bancorp Inc.
(HOME).
Symantec's fiscal second-quarter profit rose 28% while lower
expenses and flat input costs helped mask a decline in revenue.
Shares were down 12% to $21.56 in after-hours trading as the
company posted lower-than-expected results, lowered its full-year
guidance and issued current-quarter guidance below analysts'
expectations.
Akamai warned its profitability could take a hit in the coming
months after its biggest customer renegotiates a soon-to-expire
contract with the company. The cautious note from Akamai, which
runs a global network of servers that distribute Internet content
on customers' behalf, overshadowed a surprisingly strong
third-quarter performance buoyed by delivery of Apple Inc.'s (AAPL)
iOS 7 software release. Shares fell 6.9% to $48.31 after hours.
Angie's List's third-quarter loss narrowed as the online-reviews
site continued to post improving revenue and growing membership
rolls. However, shares tumbled 7.5% to $14.29 in after-hours
trading as the company's revenue outlook for the fourth quarter
fell short of Wall Street's expectations.
Cascade Bancorp (CACB) agreed to merge with Home Federal in a
deal valued at $265.7 million, with the combined company serving
customers in Oregon and Idaho. Home Federal's shares jumped 9% to
$13.96 after hours.
Fortinet Inc.'s (FTNT) profit declined 36% in the third quarter,
dragged by higher costs and narrower margins. Shares of the network
security company, however, were up 7.1% to $22.01 in after-hours
trading after results beat analysts' expectations.
Shares of Merit Medical Systems Inc. (MMSI) jumped 15% to $16 in
after-hours trading after the medical devices manufacturer reported
third-quarter profit that easily topped Wall Street's
expectations.
TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. (TQNT) swung to a third-quarter
profit as the chip maker posted improving revenue. However, shares
fell 11% to $7.41 after hours as TriQuint provided a fourth-quarter
outlook that missed Wall Street's expectations.
Watch List:
AT&T Inc.'s (T) third-quarter profit climbed 4.9% as the
telecommunication giant added more wireless subscribers.
Boston Scientific Corp. (BSX) said it had approved a
restructuring plan to begin in the fourth quarter, with the
intention of saving up to $200 million a year.
Cheesecake Factory Inc.'s (CAKE) third-quarter earnings rose
1.2% as the company's namesake restaurants posted modest same-store
sales growth.
Citrix Systems Inc.'s (CTXS) third-quarter earnings fell 1.9%,
weighed down by higher costs and expenses that masked another big
revenue gain.
Ethan Allen Interiors Inc.'s (ETH) fiscal first-quarter profit
slid 10% as the furniture maker reported a drop in demand at its
design centers and sold more clearance items.
F5 Networks Inc.'s (FFIV) fiscal fourth-quarter profit jumped
13% as the networking-equipment company reported particularly
strong services revenue growth, while products sales also rose.
Fusion-io Inc. (FIO) swung to a fiscal first-quarter loss as the
data-storage company recorded a steep drop in revenue, weighing on
margins.
MKS Instruments Inc. (MKSI) issued a relatively rosy outlook for
the fourth quarter.
Seven Seas Trading Limited has amassed a 5% stake in hotel owner
Red Lion Hotels Corp. (RLH), while calling the stock undervalued
and intending to engage in talks with management about strategic
plans.
SL Green Realty Corp.'s (SLG) board authorized a 52% increase to
the New York office landlord's dividend, the third significant
boost the company has announced since the payout was drastically
slashed during the financial crisis.
Tractor Supply Co.'s (TSCO) third-quarter earnings rose 29% on
strong-same store sales growth driven by purchases of consumable,
usable and edible products as well as seasonal goods.
TripAdvisor Inc.'s (TRIP) third-quarter earnings slipped 5.9% at
the hotel-reviews site as a jump in expenses masked a rise in
revenue.
Varian Medical Systems Inc.'s (VAR) fiscal fourth-quarter fell
2.4% as higher costs offset the medical-equipment and software
maker's modest revenue growth.
Visa Inc.'s (V) board has authorized a 21% increase to the
payments network company's dividend, the fifth time the company has
boosted the payout on Class A shares since it went public in
2008.
