MUNICH, September 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Advantech, Brocade, GigaSpaces, Saguna and Vasona Networks
announced today they will showcase a joint advanced service
delivery proof of concept (PoC) in the first ETSI MEC PoC ZONE at
the MEC Congress in Munich
Sept. 20-22. The proposal was
previously accepted by ETSI's Industry Specification Group for
Mobile Edge Computing (ISG MEC).
The joint MEC PoC, "Multi-Service MEC Platform for Advanced
Service Delivery," showcases a single unified infrastructure, NFV-O
and cloud orchestration systems. It demonstrates the ability to
support multiple MEC platforms and applications residing on shared
and common computing infrastructure, each providing a unique
value-add on traffic traversing the platform.
Traffic is dynamically routed to select MEC platforms and then
MEC applications provide data analytics, traffic optimization and
network functions. The system leverages flexible service function
chaining to enhance subscriber experience and operator visibility
into network characteristics.
"As MEC gets standardized, it is important to demonstrate a
viable MEC platform architecture, including how applications and
services can utilize the platform," said Kevin Shatzkamer, chief technology officer of
mobile networking, Brocade. "This PoC demonstrates the
viability and capabilities of MEC while creating a feedback loop
into the standardization process that is based on real-world MEC
deployments."
Brocade's multi-vendor, multi-application MEC platform allows
both VNFs and cloud services to be instantiated and delivered.
The platform includes MEC User Plane functionality as defined
in the 3GPP documentation as well as the development of MEC APIs
between platforms, orchestration software and infrastructure.
Vasona Network's edge application controller, SmartAIR®, takes a
holistic approach to addressing mobile network data traffic
contention that occurs in each cell, monitoring every application
that demands bandwidth. A new SmartAIR Edge Services Platform is a
standard-based MEC software layer that runs on NFV- infrastructure
(NFVI) available from third-party partners and supports customers'
network and business agility in support of radio access network
(RAN) transformation initiatives.
Saguna Open-RAN is an advanced MEC platform that creates an open
ecosystem for running MEC applications inside the Radio Access
Network (RAN), in close proximity to mobile users. The ETSI
MEC standard-based solution enables mobile operators to quickly and
effectively deploy new revenue generating services for the
Internet-of-things (IoT), tactile Internet, virtual probes, content
delivery and enterprise applications.
Cloudify, delivered by GigaSpaces, is a global orchestrator that
onboards the many components that comprise an MEC architecture to
any VIM, including configuration of the different parts, using
multiple protocols including Netconf and REST. Based on
TOSCA, Cloudify is the only open-source orchestrator with multi-VIM
support, serving as the NFV-O and VNFM in the ETSI architecture,
for MEC service onboarding, deployment, and ongoing monitoring and
maintenance all through a single pane of glass. There is a
growing trend of distributed local edge MEC-based applications that
will require management and orchestration, and Cloudify was built
to power this revolution.
Advantech's PAC-6009 is a versatile and scalable NFV platform,
which makes it easier to deploy the same Virtualized Network
Functions (VNFs) that are used in the data center or core, at the
radio edge of the mobile network. The PAC-6009 Packetarium XLc
Carrier Grade Blade Server brings together the IT and networking
features of both the Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 v4 and Intel®
Xeon® processor D-1500 product families with its high availability
and NEBS-compliant design principles. The combination of a scale
out NFV platform with carrier grade features not only helps to
implement service elasticity, it also helps to speed up NFV roll
outs by addressing locations where commodity data center gear
cannot be installed and operated.

Service Delivery' system in the ETSI PoC zone during the MEC
Congress, 21-22 September in Munich. To find out more about this PoC,
