“IMDb was born out of my personal film diary
and lifelong obsession with cinema,” said Col Needham, IMDb’s
Founder and CEO. “On the occasion of IMDb’s 26th anniversary, it
seems fitting to reveal my 10,000th unique film and
my all-time top 10 movies list. A Monster Calls, the 10,000th
individual movie I’ve watched, is an utterly unique and emotionally
powerful film – an instant classic. It has already earned
the #1 spot on my top 10 movies of 2016 list. I am a big
fan of Felicity Jones, who received IMDb’s STARmeter
Award last month just prior to A Monster Calls’
world premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film
Festival. It is also noteworthy to me that Felicity’s
co-star in this movie is Sigourney Weaver, who stars
in Aliens, my #6 film of all time. I
am delighted that A Monster Calls, a movie that
resonates with me on so many levels, has become a milestone in
my personal viewing history, which I track diligently via my
IMDb Watchlist.”

About A Monster Calls
A Monster Calls is scripted by Patrick Ness, based upon the
novel he wrote from an original idea by Siobhan Dowd. 12-year-old
Conor (Lewis MacDougall) is dealing with far more than other boys
his age. His beloved and devoted mother (Felicity Jones) is ill. He
has little in common with his imperious grandmother (Sigourney
Weaver). His father (Toby Kebbell) has resettled thousands of miles
away. But Conor finds a most unlikely ally when the Monster
(portrayed by Liam Neeson in performance-capture and voiceover)
appears at his bedroom window one night. Ancient, wild, and
relentless, the Monster guides Conor on a journey of courage,
faith, and truth that powerfully fuses imagination and reality.
Focus Features releases A Monster Calls, which is MPAA-rated
“PG-13,” in select U.S. cities on December 23rd, 2016; and
nationwide in the U.S. on January 6th, 2017.
