SEOUL--The Samsung Group's display unit said Friday it named Kwon Oh-hyun chief executive, as it seeks to expand its presence in the global market.

He is currently a co-chief executive at Samsung Electronics Co. (005930.SE). Mr. Kwon will retain that post. He oversees the company's component business, which includes both chips and displays.

Samsung Display's current CEO, Park Dong-gun, will become president of Samsung Electronics' components business, a spokesman for the display company said.

The move will be effective next month.

Samsung Display, which makes screens for a host of Samsung Electronics' smartphones, has been struggling to diversify its client portfolio and broaden its revenue streams.

Local media reports have said the company recently signed a deal with Apple Inc. (AAPL) to supply flexible organic light-emitting diode, or OLED, screens for next-generation iPhones.
