By Friedrich Geiger FRANKFURT--A German court Tuesday allowed Samsung Electronic Co. (005930.SE) to sell its amended Galaxy Tab 10.1 inch tablet computer but banned the sale of its 7.7 inch version in the European Union, following allegations by Apple Inc. (AAPL) that the South Korean competitor violates its design patent. The ruling is the latest in a patent battle among several makers of electronic devices in courts around the globe. The higher regional court in Duesseldorf had earlier prohibited the sale of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 by Samsung's German subsidiary and decided now that the South Korean parent company also must not sell the device in the E.U. The court had also earlier banned the sale of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 in Germany, saying they are unfair imitations of Apple's iPad. After this ruling, Samsung amended the design of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and named the new version 10.1N. The court now ruled that the new design is sufficiently distinct from the iPad.
