Hastings Entertainment, Inc. (HAST) to Host Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on May 30th

Leading multimedia superstore retailer, Hastings Entertainment announced today that its 24th annual Madge Marmaduke Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Ross Rogers Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas. 212 golfers, all of whom have donated to the scholarship fund, are expected to compete.

All proceeds from the golf tournament benefit the scholarship fund, which provides tuition assistance to hardworking employees and their family members whose academic performance points to continued success. Candidates are evaluated not only based on academic records and test scores, but also extracurricular activities, volunteer work, work history, ability to communicate, recommendations, and financial need. Since its commencement in 1990, the Madge Marmaduke Scholarship Fund has awarded 175 four-year scholarships totaling over $1,000,000.

Hastings Entertainment currently operates 134 stores and three concept stores: Sun Adventure Sports in both Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas, and TRADESMART in Littleton, Colorado. Hastings offers new and used books, videos, video games, and CDs, as well as trends and consumer electronics merchandise. The company also runs www.goHastings.com, an e-commerce website that makes offers new and used entertainment products and unique, contemporary gifts and toys.

Still, it looks like the accum line wants to trend up.

I believe a golden cross is when a shorter term moving average crosses above a long-term moving average. So, the 50-MA crossing above the 200-MA would be a "golden cross. But the 50-MA crossing below the 200-MA is not.

Though a longer-term moving average carries more weight as a support (the 200), the shorter-term moving average shows the more recent trend. Technically, the 50 moving below the 200 would be considered a "death cross" if I understand correctly. See this link:

MA(200) had passed the MA(50) and the accum line has a light upward trend.

It's not a lot but it is something. If I had paid attention, I would've seen a golden cross.

Aye, if HAST can't post some good numbers for 4Q this year then 2013 is going to be a bad year for this stock. Could well see it slip back below $1 per share in 2013.

Sad part is that they could do so much with these stores, they simply have no visionaries left in the company. Just a bunch of mindless Cog's in the wheel.

I've always hoped for a reversal in this company because I love the stores. I can spend hours in them.

Oh well. Such is Business. Only the smart and stong survive and obviously AMAZON.COM took all the smarts and strongs out of these industries.

Yep, John has been selling little blocks steadily for quite a while now. Acting a bit like a CEO that has retirement on the mind. He takes a few thousand dollars every week or two...never enough to crash the price.

Always these short term profit takers.

Golden cross coming. Maybe a bit of a pop? Besides, it looks like there's been a gradual up-trend with the Accum line.

A company called Hastings Entertainment (HAST) which sells everything from books to DVD's, for example, is trading below net current asset value and for just 17% of tangible book value.

Seems like an attempt to take the price down this AM, but no one wants to sell ... moving up imo...HAST

I managed stores for Hastings for 4 years back at the turn of the century and still think this company has potential, unfortunately it is currently lacking any vision. They have done nothing "Original" and seem content to just show up late to the game and pick up the table scraps. Why are they not challenging Netflix with online service? BlockBuster is coming back and Hastings still sits on it's hands hoping that buying books for $.50 and reselling them for $13.00 will keep them afloat. No one buys books like that any more.

Hastings needs to get some visionaries and start trail blazing instead of just tagging along. Until then it will just simply "Stay Afloat" and investors will not jump on board when there are so many good buy's available these days.

Just my thought, it's a company worth more but with the current leadership it will never get there.

Sun Adventure Sports is a very nice store -- I've been there. I'm hoping they'll expand.

Remember that awesome Mortal Kombat Rebirth trailer that surfaced online all those months ago? Well we have some great news for you now, as we have a release date for when the first episode of the project will go live, and you won’t have to wait long.

For those of you who still don’t know, the Rebirth trailer didn’t result in a fully fledged movie, but instead it was converted into a web-series which will air online for free. We can tell you, that the first episode will go live on April 12th, which is a full week before the Mortal Kombat game releases on April 19th, as reported from VG247.

You’ll be able to watch the first episode via Machinima at 4pm PST on April 12th on their channel, according to Hadoken. However, if you tune in four hours earlier, you can watch some exclusive gameplay footage from Mortal Kombat, gameplay which is being played by the director and actors from the web series! – You probably won’t want to miss that since it is likely to contain gameplay which you haven’t seen before – like new characters, stages, fatalities and so on.
