What is RAN?

Revenue Anticipation Note (RAN) is a municipal bond that is repaid with the expected revenues of the project that the bond is used to finance. RAN's must have a maturity of one year or less and the anticipated revenues may come from several sources, such as sales, fees or rate increases. RAN's are typically issued by segments of the local government to raise in order to finance relatively large scale projects.
