Definition of Accelerated Cost Recovery System

The Accelerated Cost Recovery System (ACRS) is a depreciation method, introduced by the Economic Recovery Tax Act in 1981, that assigns assets periods of cost recovery based upon predetermined IRS criteria. Since 1986, the Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS) has been far more utilised.
