thank you melody9999 for taking the time to give such a detailed summary. the underlying biz seems very solid and i think undervalued, then there is the lure of one off military contracts, and , to me, it seems an ideal biz to be part of a larger group.

All IMHO, DYOR and BoL,
RNO is in my top 5 hldgs

The share price is on fire this afternoon....Is that linked to the Signet investor site visit I wonder?

Any reports from on site?

I guess the most important question is how much higher can these earnings go. Renold will continue to get re-rated steadily if this 20% growth in profits can continue and it also looks like a dividend is on the cards.

The broker says...

We raise our Target price from 58p to 65p, offering significant upside with the shares trading on a P/E of 5.9x, which looks too low given recent upgrades and sustainable cash flow improvements.

That is more than 50% higher than where the share price is now and the order book is not discretionary spend as these are critical engineered items

Just for a bit of context ..

the RNO share price traded around 60 pence in early 2006. It then climbed rapidly in to the spring/summer, 2007 - the pre GFC peak.

In FY 2007, adjusted EPS of 8 pence a share. Debt under £20 million.

So although I fully accept the point on arguable undervaluation, at the same time earnings have 'not increased' in 17 years. They are effectively now at 2007 levels.

The above is obvs being Highly selective with dates, you could equally look at more recent progress, etc.

Welcome news indeed this morning. Let’s put this announcement in context. 2023 saw the Renold statutory operating profit come in at £22.9m. Stock price after today’s statement that it should be 20% ahead, 43p. In 2007 the operating profit was £9.8m, stock price 110p. Renold is symptomatic of the aggressive derating across all UK smaller companies and is currently too cheap for its own safety. This like many other companies we have seen recently is in danger of being taken out by private capital. A sad reflection on the attitudes of the institutional fund management community to genuinely world class smaller UK companies.

Cavendish The FY24 year-end update is very upbeat signalling trading being materially ahead of expectations, with a better-than-expected profit out turn and stronger cash generation. It continues to strengthen margins through efficiencies and investment in modern equipment. The order book remains close to record levels providing a robust view of future forecasts. In FY24E we upgrade EPS by 11% and in FY25E a significant upgrade of 27.6%. It looks capable of declaring a dividend in FY25 as well as management actively seeking EPS accretive acquisitions. We raise our Target price from 58p to 65p, offering significant upside with the shares trading on a P/E of 5.9x, which looks too low given recent upgrades and sustainable cash flow improvements

So the employee trust has bought a stack more shares and now has 10.6%.

Is the employee trust forcing up the share price?

So the good thing is that buying in the market presumably means shares will not be issued to satisy options so no dilution. But who provides the money to the trust to buy the shares? If it is plc how is that expensed through the P&L?

Anyone know about these matters?

The following was from my my post 1683 following the capital markets day back in May last year: -

"Renold PLC - Capital Markets Day (With Q&A) (brrmedia.co.uk)

It is a long watch, just under 2 hours and whilst it is the company selling themselves, it is nevertheless very informative, and they seem to be very focussed on both inorganic growth and further acquisitions and to be very focussed on a very disciplined approach to capital expenditure for both investment and acquisitions. It also explains that even though Renold is not regarded as a tech company, it is benefitting from the new economy through businesses in all sectors increasing automation and demand for its products which is continuing to grow and in my view even following the recent increase in share price the PE of Renold is far too low."

The company were keen to point out that whilst their chains business appears to be very old economy, that it is a key component of the increasing automation being undertaken companies in all sectors and they are very much a part of the new economy.

Master Investor-Renold (LON:RNO) – Not A League To Go Yet Just over a month ago, when the shares of this Wythenshawe, Manchester-based engineered products maker were down at 29p, I set a new Target Price of 36p. The recently announced Interim Results brought about profit estimate upgrades. Analyst David Buxton at Cavendish Capital has fixed a 38p Price Objective on the group's shares. He is looking for a small step back in sales for the current year to end March 2024, from £247.1m to £244.3m. However, he is expecting an increase in adjusted pre-tax profits to £19.2m (£18.6m), with earnings rising fractionally to 6.0p (5.9p) per share. The group's shares, which touched 35.59p last Thursday, closed on Friday night at 34.45p. I have absolutely no concerns about my latest Target Price being achieved very soon, possibly within days. (Profile 04.06.19 @ 30p set a Target Price of 60p) (Profile 08.11.23 @ 29p set a Target Price of 36p)
