International stocks trading in New York closed mixed on Tuesday. The Bank of New York index of American depositary receipts fell 0.09% to 155.92. The European index was flat at 155.83, the Asian index improved 0.01% to 147.64, the Latin American index fell 1.1% to 288.35 and the emerging markets index declined 0.3% to 287.34. Among the companies with shares that actively traded was Yingli Green Energy Holding Co.'s (YGE).
Yingli Green reported that its first-quarter loss narrowed as the Chinese solar-products maker recorded improving margins. Shares rose 12% to $3.95.
BP PLC (BP, BP.LN) will sign a $20 billion long-term contract to supply liquefied natural gas to southeast China, the U.K.-based oil giant's chief executive said Tuesday. Shares edged down 0.2% to $51.64.
Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSA, RDSA.LN, RDSB, RDSB.LN) is selling a major stake in Woodside Petroleum Ltd. (WOPEY, WPL.AU) -- Australia's second-largest oil and gas producer-- for $5.7 billion, in the latest move by new chief executive Ben van Beurden to boost profits after years of heavy spending. The Anglo-Dutch company aims to sell about $15 billion in assets globally by the end of next year. Shares eased 0.4% to $80.45.
