- Just watch out for the rates of internal returns here Gateside. I see that they have a 5% return on retained profit. Not good imo as I was expecting a return of around 15%. Doesn't matter much for traders but it does for long term holders such as yourself.

- I love it. Final Results day comes and goes and not a single comment. Nobody interested in a solid and low risk FTSE100 company in these turbulent times? Goes to show that the majority of people on ADVFN are not much more than just gamblers.

- I agree but its strange times with the market these past 10 days Rexam did the same up-down yesterday and again this a.m. I am just going to sit tight until things settle down. ABF will be fine in the long run..........I hope

- A lot of buys towards the end, unless they were delayed trades, then it would be difficult to establish whether they were buys in fact or sells. But on the LSE site a lot of the buys on the advfn.com site are showing as sells.

- All these new ventures - especially into new markets can either go poorly or very good. If it works out then ABF could go from strength to strength, but one thing they do need to diversify which they are now doing.

- guru - you must be joking. ABF has risen 25%ca. since this venture was first announced a year ago. Long term, this is an excellent strategy, whereas Primark is a short term approach. Let's do what we are good at. We just got lucky with retailing.
- Idioterna 13:44:07 19/06/2007
- crontab - absolutely correct and as BP's jv partner on the biobutanol side, ABF stands to be a big beneficiary of the major technological bio-fuel breakthrough that BP promised for 2009. That's why I'm here.

- guru11. Two days later she was in Croydon and it was the same story there. The store was heaving with long queues at the checkouts. In the interims 24 weeks to 3 March Primark made 91m on revenues of 721m the group made 268m on 3220m.....so about a third of profits from clothing.

- Short from here??? You must be mad!!!!!!!!! Unless it convincinly breaks 800, and even then the bottom has got to be 750, right? If 800 holds, then it is a long, if it breaks it could be a short for a quick buck, but dangerous IMO, and not much in it... 50p at the most. I've got this one on my watch list to go long - just want to see whether or not 800 breaks.

- AB Foods added 32-1/2 pence at 888 after being upgraded to 'buy' from 'hold' by ABN Amro following recent results from the UK food producer. The Dutch-owned broker pointed out that AB Foods' 2005/06 results contained few surprises, with normalised pretax profit down 4 pct and EPS down 3 pct, while the dividend was raised by 4 pct.

- Looks like more concentrated rumourmongering going on over the weekend in the Times and Independent - rumour it is set to become embroiled in a sugar price-fixing investigation in its British Sugar unit. The primark bit was reported on the FT - "further concern about weakening sales at Primark" This is classic sell on the rumour.
- crontab 08:53:43 05/07/2006
- The way this stock is behaving makes me feel there's a significant amount of upside. Perhaps the sugar reform stuff was overblown. Perhaps it's the bioethanol story. Perhaps it's the prospect of a sale of Primark. Perhaps it's the feeling that it's defensive. Perhaps it's the feeling that Primark must be doing well with the summer heat. Lord knows.
